"I stuck to my guns" @bastet.x.cat

Dear Diary,

Hi! I'm Bastet Cat, a 26 year old artist from Mexico who specializes in illustration and character / creature design.

I first started on Flipnote Hatena, which was an animation based social media of sorts, basically the roots of my art. Getting to know and assimilate the bases of animation while learning to draw made my approach to art quite story oriented. Once I jumped onto Instagram (my main social media) I already had a strong domain on it all, but having to adapt to the whims of a broader audience in search of pretty and relatable art has been challenging.

I have tried to jump on hype trains, but never reached any popularity, so, I stuck to my guns and it has worked. Sure, my audience isn't as big, but it's one I've built from staying true to myself, to what I love and do best!

Lately, challenges drive me. The idea of stepping outside my comfort zone pushes me to propose riskier pieces.

A final advice from me; in a world in which you are pushed into a mold, learn how they work and change it to fit you!
