Dear Diary,
I'm Ilia Zahariev, 26 and I'm from Bulgaria, Europe. One thing my art says about me is that I care deeply about atmosphere and storytelling — even in the simplest scenes. My work reflects a curiosity for how moments, people, and history can quietly shift everything.
Social media has changed the way I work; not in a bad way, but It made me more intentional about finishing and sharing work regularly. I used to create for myself; now I think about how to communicate an idea clearly to others too. Likes sometimes mess with my mindset as well. It’s easy to associate numbers with value, but I’ve learned to treat social media as a tool, not a scoreboard.
Lately, creativity has been sparked by unexpected things: fragments of history I read, quiet observations, or moments spent experimenting in Blender. Often it’s just a sentence, a shape, or even a lighting setup that triggers an idea.
When I need to get myself going, I think about how far I’ve come. I’ll rewatch behind-the-scenes videos of artists I admire, diving into a good playlist, or sometimes, just open the project file and start — momentum does the rest.
My first paid art gig was through Fiverr. A client wanted me to create an abstract shape based on their references. It was simple, but seeing someone trust me with their vision and pay for it — was a big moment.
Of course, not every client's experience is great. One person kept asking for “quick fixes” without ever being clear about what they actually wanted. I’ve learned that good communication matters more than speed — always.
What keeps me posting online? It’s the connection. Seeing how people react to my work, sharing progress, and being part of a creative community keeps me grounded. It keeps me accountable, too.
Until then,
Ilia
